It’s impossible to talk about Granville
Island
without mentioning the food! The centre of our
gastronomic delight, and in fact, the centrepiece
of the Island’s shopping experience, is our Public
Market, where tourists and locals alike converge
for an unrivalled food-shopping experience
among a vast selection of fresh specialty foods.
Our Market Awaits
The Granville Island Public Market is Vancouver’s hub of epicurean delight. Browse the exotic array of crisp, garden-fresh produce which overflows each vendor’s stall—from luscious berries in season, to delicate Japanese eggplant. Look for displays of fresh Coho salmon and giant prawns on beds of ice. Breathe in the delicious scent of just-from-the-oven bagels mixing with the aroma of freshly roasted coffee and pungent cheeses from around the world. The Public Market provides the very best of fresh food for the expert chef, as well as those who love to eat! It is a great source of local produce, homemade products and unusual ingredients for exotic recipes. Wild fiddleheads, pine mushrooms, seaweed, stinging nettles—the list is endless.
Spotlight Events
Each day is an event in the Market, but at certain times of the year, special events highlight the very best the Market has to offer. May heralds the spring gardening season and growers come to the Gardeners’ Truck Market to sell bedding plants, hanging baskets and bulbs. The Farmers’ Truck Market follows in July—local fruits and vegetables, straight from the farm to you. For those in a hurry, the Market offers a quick lunch or snack from a variety of cultures including Indian, Chinese, Greek, Japanese, Mexican, Polish, and Italian. The following events salute various food producers and artisans:
-
Chefs Festival (February)
-
Sugaring Off (April)
-
Crafts Festival (June)
-
Cheese Festival (November)
