I've stayed here many times. We live near the Gulf Islands but husband
travels frequently in and out of YVR, usually work-week trips so when we
can swing it I come meet him coming off his midnight flight and we stay
here and take the ferry home in the morning. This is one of the only
hotels that has smoking rooms, which is notable. The rooms are spacious
and somehow, totally silent.
The food and drinks here are really fantastic. As in typical Fairmont
Hotels, the buffet breakfast is not to be missed. I've had both the
regular and the Gold Floor Lounge versions and they are both fantastic.
Honor bar in the Gold Lounge during happy hour and they serve actually
lovely food, no pop-and-chips type stuff like in a Sheraton or whatever.
It feels comfortable and casual but stylish - snappy service too. I've
NEVER had better room service food anywhere (including other Fairmont
hotels) and when you've just arrived off of a late flight starving for
real food, that means something. Order the turkey club and expect to be
sated beyond the pale.
The pool isn't really a pool - or it's three pools depending on how you
look at it. There's a hot tub, a wading pool for kids, and a small
swim-in-place lap pool. The gym is nice and well-equipped but I've never
been to the spa here.
This hotel is very literally IN the airport. If you've saved money on
your flight because it means you get into YVR at 1 am or have to leave
at six am, it's worth a night here. It will extend your vacation and
make everything about getting on/off the plane easier. Highly
recommended.

My wife and I stayed at the Fairmont Vancouver Airport on March26th in
order to catch an early morning flight to Cabo. Firstly, I booked the
hotel just 2 days before and they still gave me a wonderful price for
the room. The lady who checked us in gave me the exact room I requested
so I could watch the runways and planes . Now yes the cost of food and
drink is very expensive but in my eyes it was worth it. The beds were
very comfy, the room was spotless, clean in every way.
We hope anyone who reads this will stay a night at the Fairmont
Vancouver Airport, I know we sure will with no hesitation.

Last time we were in the Airport Fairmont we had a huge room with a
bathroom the size of a New York City hotel room. You could open the
shutters beside the bath and see the TV, or look out onto the runway and
Vancouver’s North Shore mountains in the distance. It was truly
spectacular and quickly became my favorite Fairmont—to say nothing of
being able to walk downstairs and check-in to your 6 a.m. flight
well-rested. This time we were in a standard king, nothing to write home
about, but well designed, with a separate bath and shower and a door on
the toilet proper. So, in the style of Jimmy Fallon’s Pros and Cons,
Pro: Well designed, nice shower, big bath, separated private toilet.
Con: Sounds in the toilet will echo through the room like a 747.
Although not grand and the size was fine if not spacious, still a great
room. And, while last time we had the mountains, this time we had the
airport roof looking south. Although, even the south view is expansive,
sights out to the Southern Gulf Islands, and can’t really be faulted.
And the telescope was a very nice touch in a standard room. Actual HD on
the flat screen; how many hotels have flat screens without HD... Other
nice touches include dimmers on all the bathroom lights, free Internet
for President’s Club members, friendly and helpful staff, Bose sound
system with iPod dock and our newspaper had arrived by 4:30 a.m. The bar
here is great and so is the restaurant but I won’t defend the prices.
And I also think having one robe, at $250 a night, is a bit on the cheap
(and irritating) side. What I will say about this property which
deserves the highest of praise is the soundproofing. Jets won’t keep you
awake at any hour, and really that’s what truly counts at an airport.
The bed however, for me, was a failure. Much too soft. It envelops you;
you sink deep into it. Maybe that’s ideal for some but it actually left
my back in knots. Not cheap, not ever, not even during the sales that
pop up from time to time at all the other Fairmont properties, but such
is quality and convenience.

I have been very impressed at the level of service experienced at
Fairmont hotels. This was not one of those stays. The property was very
nice, our room was enjoyable and I couldn't complain at all about it, it
was very comfortable. However, staff were not terribly accommodating. We
we felt like we were a real inconvenience.
We called the concierge to ask about the liquor store in the airport as
we wished to buy a bottle of wine and they couldn't provide us with any
information about its location or operating times, which is fine, but
neither was any effort made to answer our enquiry. We found the
information eventually on our phone. We went to the restaurant and when
asked if we could sit at a table close to the window, I am sure I saw
eyes roll. Nevertheless we had our meal- kudos, it was lovely, we were
very pleased with it.
Next day we had a later flight and left our bags at the hotel. When we
went to pick them up later in the day the receptionist rather brusquely
told us that we don't pick them up here and explained where we needed to
go. We went. They weren't there. The Porter asked us to wait where we
were and kindly retrieved them from the hotel where we were told they
were not to be found.
This was not a dreadful place to stay, it was really lovely and we
enjoyed our meal immensely. This was sort of the start to a late
honeymoon and the only thing that was less than expected was the
attitude of a number of the people working there. It made us feel
unwelcome and frankly, I would expect better. I understand people have
rotten days, maybe it was one of those, but this was not the type of
experience I would expect from a Fairmont hotel. Fairmont, you can do
better. |
